Bridal Week: Outfit of The Day: Erica

Posted by & filed under Bridal Week, Inspiration, Lulu Frost, Uncategorized, wedding season, Xenia Mara.

This is not my actual wedding dress.  My dress is hermetically sealed in my basement never to see the light of day again.  What a shame!  Do you remember this dress from our Halloween blog extravaganza?  This dress is so fun to wear!  I especially love pairing it with my red shoes.  I once saw a bride change her shoes for the party.  She wore traditional ivory for the ceremony and red pumps for the reception.  I was already married at the time so I couldn’t steal this idea…until now!  Here at Hitchcock Madrona we represent the “nontraditional” bride but are not limited to her.  A bride that wants to create a fashion forward look with a slight edge is perfect for our inventory.  BUT, if you are more traditional, take away moments and inspiration from our bridal posts.  We know not many people will actually wear all of this on their wedding day, but it is quite fun to pretend!

IMG_4348

The first layer I am wearing is the Lulu Frost Bord La Mer necklace.  It is inspired by the beach; a stunning tangle of brass chains, freshwater pearls, and glass stones.  On top is the celestial jumbo pearl creation by Subversive Jewelry.

IMG_4349

The Ashlyn’d Pearlette clutch is beyond chic.  And it is the perfect size for the necessities (lipstick, blotting papers, mints, etc.) you will need at the rehearsal dinner or reception.  Wearing: Xenia Mara hand bracelet, Hitchcock Madrona cocktail ring, and a sprinkling of personal and Catbird rings.

IMG_4354

The Wouters & Hendrix Safety Pin Pearl earrings may be the coolest “alternative pearl” look possible.  The scale is just right and they feel fresh and modern.

IMG_4345

You probably noticed how many pearls I incorporated into this look… Pearls are the traditional wedding jewelry.  They have such a wonderfully rich history.  The ancient Greeks correlated them with love and marriage and believed they brought martial bliss.  It has been long common for royalty to wear pearls (including American Royalty: Jackie Kennedy) in matrimony.

I hope you brides are feeling as inspired as we are!

Inspiration: Break Some Rules with Two Chunky Pieces

Posted by & filed under Inspiration, Uncategorized.

I love the idea of taking “rules” on dressing and finding ways around them.  If it can be done, of course, I am not going to wear something if it doesn’t work (or is ugly).  I know, everything is subjective.  My fabulous is a lot of peoples “bizarre” or “interesting”.  Trust me, I am aware.  I still have some semblance of reality (Although, it is rapidly disappearing.  Come on, I work in a jewelry store!  It’s all unicorns and puppies around here.).  I do still see the looks I get walking to work in sleepy Madrona.  They are extra long glances.  But, I digress….. try a bold combination this weekend.  Two chunky necklaces or perhaps two cocktail rings.  Two different earrings anyone?  I know I am!
erica1

I wanted to play with the idea of layering chunky necklaces.  Usually, I like to work with three elements in a layering combo but these colors drew me in today.  I love rich jewel tones, cobalt blue being my favorite color in the world.  This Venessa Arizaga cobalt blue crocheted necklace is so different.  I am so into Malacite as a stone this season – we have this chunky beauty and many earrings featuring this stone.  It is like a necklace sweater hybrid – genius!

erica2

Vintage lucite bangle and my beloved O Venture key chain.  These are made in the United States by two women in Texas.  I love mine!  It is made of leather and stainless steel.  A perfect gift.

My rings are also a usually unorthodox yet fantastical combination.  Here is another “two statement” combination.  Do you sense a trend?

Fall Collections 2013: Wouters & Hendrix

We’re thrilled to announce that we’re carrying Wouters and Hendrix, a new line to Hitchcock Madrona! The line was started in 1984 by two friends and designers, Katrin Wouters and Karin Hendrix. They both received their degrees in goldsmithing from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, their home town. Their creative collaboration matured and today Wouters and Hendrix is a fixture in Antwerp’s dynamic fashion scene. This has allowed the two friends to work in increasingly fine material; most of their jewelry is now made using sterling silver and they incorporate semi-preciuous stones into their designs. In 2007, Wouters and Hendrix began working in gold and further expanded their brand with fine jewelry collections.

The designers keep the brand’s look classic, yet they’re not afraid to mix it up a little bit with pieces that are bolder (but still totally wearable). The jewelry is beautifully made and possessed of a unique vision; we’re sure that you’ll love it just as much as we do.

XOXO,

Obsession: Color and Baseball Hats

Posted by & filed under Loren Stewart, Obsession, Uncategorized, Xenia Mara.

Color, color, color for summer. Black and grey for winter. I wish I could switch it up but I inevitably wear more drab colors in fall and winter and brights for summer. I do live in Seattle so I guess it is natural to wear grey 9 months out of the year, no?

This summer I have embraced baseball caps (I know, I am about a year late on this trend). It fits in perfectly with my tomboy-chic style. Necklaces: Sterling silver ID necklace by Loren Stewart, lapis and vintage beads by Xenia Mara, and colorful wood layers via Value Village (two separate trips).

hand

We still have a good selection of vintage wood and resin bangles in store. They come out every spring and are a great inexpensive way to add impact and color to any summer outfit. Silver and crystal link bracelet by Eddie Borgo and Hitchcock Madrona London Blue Topaz cocktail ring.

Enjoy the weather wherever you are! Happy summer!

Fashion Flashback: 1980's Flashdance

I am rocking the 80’s color pallet of purple, pink and light blue today! The necklace is IOSSELLIANI (of course!). The length of this necklace is so flattering – it hits right on the collar bone. Perfection. The off-the-shoulder “Madrona” shirt was a Dustin experiment that I normally sleep in but that I had to wear today (comfortable!). I saved it from the garbage and cut the neck and arms. We still have the small pink fedora by Kelly Christy! Someone needs to snap this up before summer is over. It is adorable – a men’s silhouette in a girly color. LOVE it! The size is great for most people that have tried it on in the store.

Pink and red (that color combo is not used enough!) bracelet by IOSSELLIANI (right hand) and silver latch bracelet by Eddie Borgo (hard to see). Even my J.Crew shoes seem to read 80’s with this outfit!

wrist

Classic white druzy quartz and sterling silver ring by Hitchcock Madrona. I am also wearing a Hitchcock Madrona pink tourmaline and diamond one-of-a-kind cocktail ring.

Obsession: Emeralds

Posted by & filed under Obsession, Uncategorized.

We are loving all things emerald this month! Maybe it’s because we have so many good designs incorporating this fantastical stone (Kryptonite anyone?). What makes an emerald so amazing? The bright, almost glowing color is the first thing I usually notice about a good quality emerald.  The next is the cut – has to be emerald! Since emeralds are technically the most included gemstone (“included” refers to the naturally occurring crystals or other substances that are present within the stone and that affect its clarity), the internal fissures and inclusions are regarded as the “garden” of the stone. A good quality emerald has a clear garden; basically, most of the stone is clear and not murky. We have never had the opportunity to purchase a great quality emerald because they are so rare (even more rare than a clear diamond!). So, when our favorite stone supplier pulled this out we didn’t even have to think! The setting is solid 18k gold and inspired by our love for all things vintage.

ring

Emerald, diamond and 18K gold ring by Hitchcock Madrona. The emerald is of astounding quality and just over 2.5 carats. It is flanked by champagne rose cut diamonds (large ones) and four tiny white sparklers. This is THE BEST item in the store at the moment – please, somebody POP THE QUESTION with this stunner!

IMG_8094

Kate is also rocking a Ikat scarf as a turban (of course) and a Hitchcock Madrona double strand necklace over her forehead (again, of course!).  The cocktail rings are all one-of-a-kind and diamond. Her (own) simple 18k gold 1/2 ring is also Hitchcock Madrona.

Travel: The India Diaries – Night Out

Posted by & filed under Travel, Uncategorized.

Dinner with an important supplier in India calls for a new skirt!  It is also occasion to wear (test drive) product from the trip. As you can see, for summer we love the colorful ethnic vibe of traditional Indian beading and bangles.

This necklace is still available – love it with a white t-shirt and distressed denim. Go all out with piles of bangles.

Green amethyst cocktail ring. One of my favorite designs of all time! Clear, pink and black center stones still available.

As we were leaving our hotel we ran into a wedding procession. It was amazing! These guys (below) roll the giant lights down the street in dramatic procession. The bride is surrounded by friends and family (you can’t even see her in the middle of the mob) and the groom brings up the rear on a horse!

Outfit of the Day: Bedazzled School Boy

Posted by & filed under Iosselliani, Lulu Frost, MOSCOT, OOTD, Uncategorized.

Layers of pearls, chains, gemstones and rhinestones – the obvious jewels for my bedazzled school boy look today. I borrowed my husbands tie this morning along with an old pair of his jeans that were in the give-away pile. I cut them off and cuffed them for a bit of a lighter look. What is better than authentic “boyfriend jeans”?

IMG_6973

My current favorite MOSCOT frames are the classic Lemtosh. It took me a moment to come around to this style (had a love affair with Nebb for months). I am especially drawn to the blond color. It is so warm and flattering on everyone.

IMG_6981

Rhinestone lobster brooch by Lulu Frost.

IMG_6984

I am so into our BIG gemstone rings, especially the rose quartz one I am rocking (no pun intended) in the library. Rhinestone cuff by IOSSELLIANI and pocket square by Hitchcock Madrona.  We just put out a new batch of our fab pocket squares in time for Father’s Day. Even if your man doesn’t wear a suit /jacket that often when he does wear one and adds a pocket square everyone will be impressed.  It’s a nice touch.  The cotton version can also be used as a hanky which is so retro/practical!

XOXO
