Inspiration: Dannijo Cubano Collection

My outfit is built around (and inspired by) the current spring collection from Dannijo.  Danielle and Jody, the deisgners, made a trip to Cuba for this season’s inspiration.  Pastel colors punctuate fresh silhouettes which are reminiscent of what I image Cuba is like ….. 1950’s automobiles, pale pink and sea foam green buildings, year round sunshine, and exotic everything!

Broke Down: The Search for Fall

Posted by & filed under Dannijo, Hitchcock Madrona Signature, Inspiration, Just In, Kelly Christy, Klements, Lulu Frost, MOSCOT, OOTD, Pamela Love, Scarves, Travel, Xenia Mara, Yestadt Millinery.

Do you ever feel like you’re broken down on the side of the road, just waiting for someone to come along and tow you to safety? That is exactly how we feel waiting for Fall to come along. Enough with the babydoll dresses and billowy blouses. Well, we got impatient waiting for fall and decided to hit the road in search of patchwork, woolen layers, and the men’s coat of our dreams.

This year, we’re heading into fall with looks that pack a serious punch. Instead of easing into fall with a monochromatic attitude, we’re carrying color into our favorite season. From color-blocked hats and bags and festive cashmere, from Kelly Christy, Yestadt Millinery, and Hitchcock Madrona to 70s sexy, and Maleficent approved evil granny finds from our favorites at Dannijo and Lulu Frost we’re making our own fall story.

OOTD: Posing in an Alley with a Handbag I Don’t Own (or Just Another Day at the Office)

ampersand as apostrophe, jewelry, turban, jennifer behr, scarf, hitchcock madrona, beads Today, I demonstrate a prime example of the power of accessorizing.  You can spice up a drab t-shirt and jeans with a mere 75 accessories!  Not only am I just wearing a t-shirt and jeans, the t-shirt is effectively wrinkled like I slept in it for several nights in a row (I didn’t, don’t worry).  But, who will be able to focus on the wrinkles when I am wearing Lulu Frost’s Passages Necklace, Eddie Borgo’s Pierced Pearl Necklace, Vintage Native American Beads, and my Chanel Pearls??  HA!  I have cleverly added the biggest distraction of all: the Fashion Turban.

Moscot’s Lemtosh sunnies and a few Hitchcock Madrona textiles (cotton men’s shirting scarf, silk pochette) compliment this soft, blush Ampersand as Apostrophe Half Tote.

Now that it is officially August, we’re already working fall into our vocab and wardrobe. Keep your eyes peeled, as collections will be arriving in the coming weeks.  Check out our Instagram and Youtube channel for daily and weekly updates!

Bridal Week: The Vintage Bride in Winter

Posted by & filed under Bridal Week, Hitchcock Madrona Signature, Inspiration, Lulu Frost, MOSCOT, wedding season, What I'm Wearing.

The ring is presented.  The proposal accepted.  Champagne flutes raised.  Friends, family and co-workers all want to know: When is the wedding? Where will it be held? All important details, none more important than the question we ask ourselves: what type of bride am I??  Am I a beach bride?  A Las Vegas bride??  A winter bride?  A church bride?  It’s fun to try on all the veils for just a moment and see what feels like you.

If you live in Seattle June through August is wedding season.  We got married in June but I have always been drawn to the gutsy winter wedding.  Today I explore the vintage bride in winter.  Icy rhinestones (something new), a vintage fur wrap (something old), and Gatsby-esque touches complete my frozen combo.  I used a cobalt ribbon (something blue) to accent my dress and coordinated my husband’s pocket square for our (fictitious – we are married!) February nuptials.

Without further adu – here comes the bride….

jennifer behr, lulu frost, hitchcock madronaPearls are always a classic bridal choice but I wanted my look to be a little more dramatic and less traditional.  The headband and long pearls play up the flapper vibe but in a sublte way.  The opera length strand of freshwater pearls also breaks up the straight neckline of my dress.

As you can see, my accessories are subtle but paired with a wedding dress they are not crazy.  In fact, you need to keep proportion in mind.  A large dress that is very formal needs jewelery that stands up to it in photos that are (a lot of the time) from a distance.

Husband is working his MOSCOT sunglasses in Tummel Tortoise.  He is serving some rat-pack-realness!  That phrase just made him so uncomfortable.

Lipstick color is key, especially when considering photos can easily wash you out.

A vintage fur wrap or caplet is a winter bride’s sole advantage.  Who else can wear fur to their wedding??  Take it and run!

OOTD: Leather Shawls and Rose Gold Collars

If you’re anything like me, your Instagram feed is filled with fashion blogger, models, and other aspirational people that are more fascinating than who I goal myself to be like. That aside, sometimes their trend rub off on me and this fashion week was no exception. Fashionistas (I hate that word for the record) and style icons across the board seem to feel that wearing jackets as actual jackets instead of a shrug or shawl is passé. Not that I agree-sleeves and I generally get along, but I found myself becoming just another sheep in the herd. However, I accessorized in a way that most of them are not, with our newst fine jewelry line: Ginette NY. Sleek, sexy, and a little sweet the 18k rose gold collection we received left us blown away. A perpetual fan of letting my jewels do the talking, I suited up and hit the streets, well the alley behind our studio not quite NYC but far cooler in my opinion. Check out the awesome collection, and decide how you feel about sleeves as accessory.

Loren Stewarts XL Chain Bracelet, and my wide silver HM Bangle Cuff have yet to come off my arm. Capped off with my Ampersand as Apostrophe (removable) clutch in Buffalo Leather and I’m ready for front row…at the bar of my choosing.

Whether Fashion Week viewing, or strolling to your local dive these Ginette pieces are sure to make your cool, absolutely effortless. Throw in some leather accents, and your favorite pair of shades and you’re good to go.

Jewelry Contradictions and Life’s Little Subversion

Posted by & filed under Hitchcock Madrona Signature, Iosselliani, Loren Stewart, Lulu Frost, MOSCOT, OOTD, Uncategorized, Vintage.

 full

Spring is in full bloom here in Seattle, and Team Hitchcock is taking a no holds barred approach to vivid color, and soft pastels. This week, Erica talks to us about color and contradiction, her love of Doritos, and how to expertly pair your earthy beads with some serious Heavy Metal for a day of errands in her OOTD. Simple, right?

mid2

There is nothing I enjoy more when getting dressed than to mix seemingly contradictory styles.  Wearing cooky clothing is my life’s little subversion *cackles* well, that and devouring spicy nacho Doritos. But, I digress. In this post my sole aim is to to illustrate one major “lesson” in personal style. Balance in contradiction, is a mantra I find myself repeating whilst meditating over my morning latte. Your contradiction may not be as extreme or thematic as mine (dramatic? me?) but don’t shy from mixing pieces that you normally wouldn’t. Experiment with color combinations, mix metals, combine designer with thrift.  But, and this is key, execute it in a way that is planned.  Balance your choices and leave everything else clean and simple.

necklace

We start with these delicate layers of colorful, vintage beads set to frame and balance this angry, angular pendant by IOSSELLIANI.  The multiple strands of cobalt, translucent pink, white and gold beads dance around the structured armor of the Italian bling.  IOSSELLIANI continues to amaze us with show-stopping jewels that are a fashion plate’s secret weapon.  Who wouldn’t be impressed by this slightly tribal stunner? Take your edgy pieces, and soften them for a sunny, summer brunch or Happy Hour with the girls. Throw on your frayed denim shorts, a white t-shirt (I know – so cliche!), these two necklaces and a fab pair of this season’s shoe du jour – the flat gladiator sandal.

druzy

To keep the balance, make sure your rings and bracelets make an appearance. Tying in our themes of earthy with edgy, a grey Hitchcock Madrona Druzy is always welcome feature in my wardrobe. The perfect neutral compliment for any season, and it compliments my hair-I’m definitely a fan.

Lulu Frost Scarab Earrings

Lulu Frost’s Scarab Family Earrings from the Spring Collection were the perfect touch of whimsy for the look. While I am a fan of the rules, I’m always a fan of turning them on their heads. Maybe it’s the rush of Vitamin D, or the flowers in bloom but I’m certainly feeling playful in all corners of my life. I see no reason for my outfit to be anything less than representative of how I feel, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

XOXO,

E

Leave it to Lulu to create a beautiful Art Deco, star burst motif that feels fresh mixed with brass chain (which brings some warmth to the cool rhinestones and allows for beautiful movement).

A mix of 1920’s vintage brooches, hat pins, and Art Deco dress clips make up this striking statement necklace. The steel chains add depth and just the right amount of edge to this piece.

Tom Binns asymmetrical white crystal necklace inset with pearls.

We are all about asymmetry at Hitchcock Madrona and Tom Binns does it perfectly (of course!). This piece is great if you want to throw on a statement earring (or other accessory) too – it’s delicate enough that you won’t feel overly done.

These Swarovski crystal and pearl beauties give the illusion of enveloping the earlobe. So, so lovely. There’s a reason Tom Binns is the reigning king of the fashion jewelry world!

Lulu Frost Decade earring.

This is exactly how we like to wear our pearls… with a little bit of edge. These glass pearls, caged by black metal settings encrusted with crystals, are a flawless mix of ladylike and evil.

Jennifer Behr Vela Halo headpiece.

This headpiece is one of the easiest to wear – it looks gorgeous with hair up or down. Strands of Swarovski gunmetal crystals drape together in a peak to create a beautiful halo effect. Our Jennifer Behr holiday order just arrived and we have several more stunning crystal pieces, silk bow headbands, rhinestone barrettes, sultry veils, and more. We need to find a masquerade ball to attend!

Hitchcock Madrona pave diamond key necklace.

With just a hint of icy pave diamonds, our key pendant is perfect if the bigger statement pieces seem daunting… and it’s just a wonderful addition to any jewelry collection.

“Armageddon was yesterday, today we have a serious problem.”

Look out Lisbeth Salander, Team Hitchcock Madrona is looking pierced, tattooed, and punk enough to take on any dangerous mission. We might be lacking in the computer hacking skills department (is Mercury still in retrograde? Can we blame it on that?) but we’re making up for it in spades with the fiercest jewels and accessories around.

Daily Fortune (The Cookie Kind): “It is difficult being fascinating”

Posted by & filed under Lulu Frost, MOSCOT, Uncategorized, Xenia Mara.

IMG_5648
That is the best fortune I have ever gotten. We quote that (yes, we quote a cookie) tidbit weekly around here. Half joking (we try not to take ourselves too seriously), half serious. This is why, as you can see, there is something different about me… Yep, I dyed my hair gray. As millions of women try to cover it (I have been one of them for years) I go all the way. I have a thing about extremes – I seem to only be interested in the fringe. A personal truth: boring is death. I know this decision may be confusing for some… or even scary. Is it because I am going against the norm and not respecting traditional social truths (i.e. “young is better”)? A physical confrontation of ones mortality? Or, people just think it is plain ugly!  All of these are okay with me. Dustin said, “You don’t dye your hair gray and expect everyone to love it. That’s why it is great!”. Other people aside, I am enjoying it. I have covered almost all conceivable “natural” hair colors in my 20 year hair experiment so, why not the last, unconquered frontier: GRAY!

IMG_5668

In this outfit I wanted (sorry, needed) to highlight the gorgeous colors from Lulu Frost’s Fall collection. These earrings and necklace are amazing. I love all things blue, it’s my color. The “Nebb” frames by MOSCOT in the color blonde are a fun way to set off my cool, cool, cool, cooler than cool, new hair color tones.

IMG_5672

Under everything is a delicate gold waterfall necklace by Xenia Mara. This one is sooo good. It is a chameleon necklace – a little Grecian goddess with a dash of Amazon woman. Super sexy. My heart necklace is over the whole sha-bang. We can’t leave out the frosty filling of this jewelry Oreo cookie: the “Warrior” necklace by Bella Colletta. I feel strong today…. that will work.

Outfit of The Day: Pumpkin Spice And Layers

Posted by & filed under Loren Stewart, MOSCOT, Selin Kent, Uncategorized, Xenia Mara, Yestadt Millinery.

IMG_7399
Fall is here! And this October baby could not be happier. Everything good comes back as soon as the leaves start turning: fall tv shows, grandpa sweaters, Pumpkin Spice (although I’m not convinced that is actually a good thing) and LAYERING! Never one to shy away from layering in any form, I have been known to layer sweaters on sweaters, with a jacket on top… or in this case a sweater, on a dress…on jeans? Why not! It’s Fall, anything goes!

IMG_7413

I chose to go heavy on the clothing layers, so for my jewelry simple statements felt perfectly appropriate. Opting for our Hitchcock Madrona XL Gold Bars to pair with my constant companion: Catbird’s Chained To My Heart stud. Topped off with Moscot’s classic Lemtosh and Yestadt’s Nomad hat (it’s packable!) for some timeless, masculine touches.

IMG_7384 IMG_7429

Xenia Mara chains from her newest collection, and the delicate BOMB necklace by Faris were the perfect combination. They have opposing lengths and scale that seem mismatched but work so well together! And a total departure from my everyday, heavily layered look.

IMG_7393 IMG_7426

Again, keeping it delicate and simple on my fingers, with a cool statement stack by Selin Kent on my right hand to throw things off just a little bit. A curveball that is somehow still perfectly within the lines. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’m off to protest the manufacturing of pumpkin spice chapstick. But not before throwing on another sweater. Stay layered!

XOXO,

Millie
